Walt Disney World in June

disneyjune

Summertime is just about here, folks, with many southern schools finishing up and beginning their summer vacations at the end of May and in early June.  As June draws to a close, the rest of the country’s kids are out for the summer and families are hitting the road with Disney World as their destination.  Temps are creeping up and things are starting to feel steamy with increasing humidity.  At the same time, there’s just nothing like the fun of a Disney summer–parks are open until the wee hours, the pools are beautiful and refreshing, and the vendors never sell out of Mickey Bars.  There’s something very magical about feeling the warm, evening air on bare arms while watching fireworks explode in a summer night’s sky.  Time spent in Disney World can be summer vacation at its best.

Crowd Levels & Special Events

You’ll see moderate crowds during those very early days in June before the calendar turns red for about the next 10-weeks.  Gay Days, an event held annually in Orlando, is scheduled to take place between the 5th and the 8th this year.  The Walt Disney World theme parks “assign” one park per day as the official park for the Gay Days schedule, but crowds aren’t noticeably affected by the event.  Additionally, Star Wars Weekends continue through mid-June at Hollywood Studios making that park far busier on the Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays the event is held with Saturday being the most crowded of the weekend.

Weather

Disney World in May definitely starts to feel hot, but without the oppressive humidity you get during July and August (and even September).  Daily highs average at 89° and with an average low of 65°.  Weather is perfect for swimming and a midday resort break is a good idea as the sun is hottest during those hours.  Touring the parks in the mornings and evenings is a nice way to get a break from the heat.  May’s average monthly rainfall is 3.1-inches making it another drier time of year to visit.

Resort Pricing

Disney Resort pricing is based on multiple “seasons” throughout the year ranging from Value 1 (which is the least expensive) to Holiday (which is the most expensive).  In between the two are Value 2, Fall Season, Regular Season, Summer Season, and Peak Season.  Thrown into the mix are various holiday, weekend and special event rates which range from Regular Season to Holiday Season Pricing.
