The month of August in Disney World is a mixed bag in terms of crowd levels and pricing but the one factor that holds constant all month long is the hot, steamy weather. The first few weeks of August will see the month’s highest crowds which will diminish as the month continues. Like the other summer months, August will have longer park hours allowing guests to enjoy the parks late into the evening without the hot, Florida sun. August is another month during which an afternoon break at your resort for some swimming and downtime will be an absolute must. August tends to see some excellent discounts as well and the very popular free-dining offer is usually one that has dates beginning at either the very end of the month or the first few days of September.
Crowd Levels & Special Events
Early August will see crowds similar to June and July. As the month continues, crowd levels will begin to drop off around the third week in August and diminish considerably by the last week as most schools will be back in session. One of my favorite times of the year to visit Disney World is at the end of August and into the first week in September depending on when school begins (in 2013, that wasn’t until September 9th, allowing us to take advantage of those nice, low crowds).

Weather
August is one of the hottest, most humid months of the year with an average daily high of 92° and lows only around 73°. Hurricane season is also in full swing in August and travel insurance is a good idea if you’re planning on flying down during this time of year. My advice for visiting Disney World in August is the same as for the other summer months – TAKE YOUR TIME. Don’t try to rush from one attraction to another. Tour early in the morning, doing your best to arrive at the parks before they open and make your Fastpass+ reservations for the evening hours when the sun is low. Take a midday break to swim and relax at your resort or, at the very least, plan to relax over a longer lunch in the cool of the air-conditioning. Be sure to pack your ponchos and bring them with you each day. And take advantage of the free water at all of the Disney World quick service restaurants and kiosks–any place you go will give you a huge cup of ice water with a straw and a lid. Much better than schelpping around warm bottles of water in your backpack and far more refreshing!
Resort Pricing
Disney Resort pricing is based on multiple “seasons” throughout the year ranging from Value 1 (which is the least expensive) to Holiday (which is the most expensive). In between the two are Value 2, Fall Season, Regular Season, Summer Season, and Peak Season. Thrown into the mix are various holiday, weekend and special event rates which range from Regular Season to Holiday Season Pricing.
- August 1 – 15 Value Season 2 ($+)
- August 16 – 31 Value Season 1 ($)
Closures & Refurbishments
There are no attraction refurbishments to note at this time in July.
