When I was a kid, in the era before VCRs, DVDs and Netflix, holiday television specials were the rage and we waited with anticipation for the nights when our favorites would be aired each year. In this spirit, Disney’s Pixar Studios is releasing it’s own version of a holiday special tomorrow night with Toy Story of Terror, a televised Halloween episode that plays upon all of the quirks of the horror genre in the classically brilliant Pixar way.
In the 22-minute special, Jessie (Joan Cusack), known from Toy Story 2 as being claustrophobic and having a fear of the dark, is the heroine of the toys’ latest adventure. When we last saw them, Andy delivered his beloved toys to their new home with Bonnie. In Toy Story of Terror, the toys head out on a road trip to Bonnie’s grandmother’s house when car trouble lands them in a fleabag motel overnight. Then some seriously creepy things start to happen.
Pixar’s latest project in the Toy Story franchise features all of the stars of the film trilogy with Tom Hanks and Tim Allen returning as the voices of Woody and Buzz in addition to Joan Cusack as Jessie. Timothy Dalton as Mr. Pricklepants is the narrator of the short, and Carl Weathers as Combat Carl/Combat Carl Jr., Don Rickles as Mr. Potato Head, Wallace Shawn as Rex and Kristen Schaal as Trixie round out the crew.
From director Angus MacLane and producer Galyn Susman, Toy Story OF TERROR! will premiere WEDNESDAY OCT 16 8|7c on ABC.
